Sora 2 Prompt Playbook: Writing Shots that Actually Render
A field guide to crafting text prompts that produce cinematic Sora 2 video on the first try.
We red-teamed hundreds of Sora 2 prompts during launch month. Here is the checklist we give Pro members before they hit generate.
Three-layer prompt structure
Layer | What to specify | Example |
---|---|---|
World | Location, time of day, weather, camera rig | dawn run through neon-soaked Tokyo backstreet, handheld steadicam |
Subject | Wardrobe, pose, emotion, action | athlete in thermal techwear, explosive sprint, determined expression |
Finishing | Lens, motion, grade, references, negatives | shot on 35mm, anamorphic flares, feels like a Nike film, avoid crowd |
Sora reads left-to-right. When a generation derails, adjust one layer at a time instead of rewriting everything.
Blueprint 1 · Running shoe launch
A cinematic commercial of New brand running shoes, starting with a serene early morning city street, soft golden sunlight, light fog, dew on the ground, a runner tying bright New shoes, close-up on shoe details, brand logo visible, calm and focused mood. Then low-angle slow-motion of the runner’s feet hitting the ground, New shoes compressing with every step, dust particles flying, strong sense of power and anticipation. High-angle aerial view of the runner running through city streets and parks, sunlight filtering between buildings, shoes shining under light, dynamic motion blur showing speed, energetic and free vibe. Runner jumping over obstacles, New shoes gripping firmly, slow-motion emphasizing shock absorption and agility, background slightly blurred, dramatic lighting, heroic and adventurous feeling. Runner sitting on a bench, wiping sweat, shoes in focus, clean and shining, warm backlight highlighting details, relaxed and satisfied mood, cinematic soft color tones. Finally, New running shoes placed in the center on a clean black background, brand logo appearing clearly, slow zoom in, reflective lighting on shoes emphasizing premium material, modern, minimalist, cinematic style, clear and impactful. Ultra-realistic textures, dynamic motion, vibrant cinematic lighting, high detail, 4K resolution, cinematic, sporty, energetic, premium mood.
Why it works
- Story beats: The prompt walks through wide → detail → lifestyle → hero shot, giving Sora a storyboard to follow.
- Camera variety: Calling out low-angle slow motion, aerial views, and macro tie-up shots encourages multi-shot sequences.
- Brand anchors: Repeating "New shoes" and "brand logo" keeps markings consistent across transitions.
Blueprint 2 · Luxury watch showcase
A cinematic and luxurious watch commercial for SoraVideo.art, starting with a close-up of a premium wristwatch on a person’s wrist, soft ambient light reflecting off the polished metal and glass, ultra-realistic textures, sleek and modern mood. Slow-motion shot of the watch hands moving, highlighting precise mechanics and craftsmanship, cinematic motion blur, premium and sophisticated atmosphere. Wide-angle view of the watch placed on a clean minimal surface, soft shadows and reflective highlights, emphasizing elegance and detail. Close-up of intricate watch features like gears, crown, and engravings, shallow depth of field, cinematic lighting, ultra-realistic style. Transition to a wristwatch being worn during a dynamic scene, e.g., adjusting cuff or checking time while walking, slow-motion emphasizing style and confidence. Finally, the watch placed in the center on a dark or neutral blurred background, soft spotlight highlighting textures and metallic sheen, slow zoom in, modern, cinematic, premium style, clear and impactful, suitable for brand advertisement. Ultra-realistic textures, dynamic motion, cinematic lighting, vibrant and elegant colors, 4K resolution, luxurious, sophisticated, modern, high-end atmosphere.
Playbook notes
- Move from lifestyle wrist shot to product hero to cover both emotion and detail.
- Specify the micro-mechanics (hands, gears, engravings) so Sora emphasises craftsmanship.
- Keep "soft spotlight" and "metallic sheen" to control reflections during the closing shot.
Blueprint 3 · Mineral water energy
A cinematic and refreshing mineral water commercial for SoraVideo.art, starting with a close-up of crystal-clear water being poured into a glass, droplets sparkling under soft sunlight, ultra-realistic textures, clean and pure mood. Slow-motion shot of water splashing, forming ripples and bubbles, dynamic motion blur, refreshing and energizing atmosphere. Wide-angle view of a pristine mountain spring, sunlight reflecting on flowing water, mist rising gently, cinematic composition, vibrant and serene colors. Close-up of a hand holding a chilled mineral water bottle, condensation visible on the surface, soft focus background, refreshing and premium feeling. Transition to water droplets sliding down the bottle, sparkling under cinematic lighting, ultra-realistic textures, dynamic motion emphasizing purity. Finally, a mineral water bottle placed on a clean minimal background, soft spotlight highlighting the bottle and water clarity, slow zoom in, modern, premium, cinematic style, clear and impactful, suitable for brand advertisement. Ultra-realistic textures, vibrant colors, dynamic motion, 4K resolution, clean, refreshing, pure, premium atmosphere.
Troubleshooting
- Use wide → close → macro sequencing to minimise Sora’s need to invent transitions.
- "Condensation visible" and "droplets sliding" push the model toward tactile surfaces.
- Keep final hero shot clean with "minimal background" plus "soft spotlight" for specular control.
Blueprint 4 · Premium SUV journey
A cinematic and high-end car commercial for SoraVideo.art, starting with a close-up of a sleek modern car parked on a scenic road, sunlight reflecting off the polished body, ultra-realistic textures, luxurious and premium mood. Slow-motion shot of the car starting, tires spinning, dust and light reflecting dynamically, cinematic motion blur, sense of power and anticipation. Wide-angle view of the car driving through city streets at dusk, lights reflecting on wet asphalt, dynamic camera movement following the car, cinematic composition, energetic and stylish atmosphere. Close-up of car details: headlights, grille, rims, and dashboard, shallow depth of field, emphasizing precision and design, ultra-realistic textures. Transition to a car cornering smoothly on a winding road, slow-motion emphasizing speed and agility, cinematic lighting, dynamic reflections on the body. Finally, the car comes to a stop in a minimal modern setting, soft spotlight highlighting contours and paint finish, slow zoom in, modern, cinematic, premium style, clear and impactful, suitable for brand advertisement. Ultra-realistic textures, dynamic motion, cinematic lighting, vibrant and luxurious colors, 4K resolution, stylish, energetic, premium, high-end atmosphere.
Why we love it
- Covers city, road, and studio beats so you can cut a complete 30-second spot from one render.
- Repeatedly referencing "polished body" and "soft spotlight" keeps reflections disciplined.
- Detail callouts (headlights, rims, dashboard) encourage Sora to deliver insert-friendly shots.
Blueprint 5 · Perfume hero pan
Generate a scene of a perfume in a glass bottle. The sprayer will be gold, and a gentle rain is falling in the background. The scene will feature a downward pan from top to bottom, with small reflections on the glass bottle.
Stitching advice
- Keep it short (4–6 seconds) so the downward pan stays smooth from top to base.
- Layer "gentle rain" Foley or ambient pads in post to reinforce atmosphere.
- Use the hero pan as an end card inside longer fragrance edits for a polished sign-off.
Prompt diagnostics checklist
- Rewrite wardrobe with fewer adjectives (two strong descriptors beat five vague ones).
- Add reference phrasing: “feels like [brand film]” or “shot for [industry].”
- Insert “single subject” or “solo performer” when you need focus.
- Cap the duration (
6 second clip
). - Add
physically accurate
orrealistic
to the motion description. - Remove conflicting verbs (e.g., “slow motion sprint” is contradictory).
- Declare a single light source (
one key light
,softbox overhead
). - Mention environment reflections (
matte asphalt
,matte painted walls
). - Use
avoid flicker
orconsistent exposure
for stability.
